Robert Garwood was a US Marine who went missing in Vietnam in 1965 and was later accused of collaborating with the enemy. He was captured by the North Vietnamese and held as a prisoner of war for nearly 14 years, during which time he allegedly provided information to his captors and participated in propaganda broadcasts. Garwood was released in 1979 and faced a court-martial upon his return to the US. He was convicted of collaborating with the enemy and sentenced to life in prison, but was later released on parole. Garwood's case remains controversial and he maintains his innocence, claiming that he was tortured and coerced into collaborating with the enemy.
